SungWon Cho born December 9, 1990 is a Korean-American actor and voice actor. He was born in Rochester, Minnesota, to South Korean parents, and grew up in Michigan, eventually residing in DeWitt. He attended Michigan State University and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Media Information and Technology. Early on, Cho showed interest in performance: in high school he voiced different characters in his friend’s radio plays.
After college, SungWon Cho initially taught English as a second language to Korean immigrant students. He started posting voice content on Tumblr in 2012, sharing comedic sketches and impressions. One of his early viral moments was a video in which he sang “Let It Go” from Frozen approximating the voice of Goofy. That exposure led to his first professional voice acting audition (noticed by a voice director), and he won the role of Zeus in the video game Apotheon.
Breakthrough in Web Series
Cho’s large break in web series came with Anime Crimes Division (2017–2018), where he played the main character Detective Joe Furuya. This was a live-action web series produced by Crunchyroll, which raised his visibility both among fans of online content and in voice acting circles.
Over time, SungWon has taken on many voice acting roles in web series, television animation, video games, and animated films. Some of his prominent voice actor characters include:
- FL4K in Borderlands 3
- Holst Sigiswald Goneril in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
- Ratatoskr in God of War Ragnarök
- Abby Saja in KPop Demon Hunters
He also voiced Mordecai Heller in Lackadaisy, which is an important role in his filmography.
Unique Voice Acting Style
SungWon Cho’s distinctive style lies in his versatility: he is able to voice all different sorts of characters regardless of appearance or age. He often uses exaggerated comedic timing, parodic touches, and expressive delivery, especially when working in online sketch content. His background in content creation (on YouTube, Tumblr, Vine) helps him build or portray characters whose voices convey a lot of personality even with minimal animation or budget.
Collaboration with Online Creators
Cho has frequently worked with online creators, both through his own channels (as “ProZD”) and via collaborative projects. His YouTube channel includes short comedy skits, parody universes, gaming/sketch crossovers, and has recurring characters. He also partners with creators in indie animation, voice casting directors, and studios that produce web series. His approach tends to blur the line between content creator and voice actor.
Awards and Recognition
Though SungWon Cho is more known in the voice actor and online content space than mainstream Hollywood awards, he has received several nominations:
- Shorty Awards, nominated for Vine of the Year.
- Streamy Awards, nominated for Best Acting in a Comedy for Anime Crimes Division.
- Nominated in Crunchyroll Anime Awards for Best Voice Artist Performance (English) for roles such as Kage in Ranking of Kings and Senshi in Delicious in Dungeon.
Some challenges include the early struggle to break into professional voice acting, balancing content creation with casting opportunities, and managing consistency across many different character voices. Milestones include that first villain role (Zeus), landing a main role in Anime Crimes Division, signing with Creative Artists Agency, and being cast in high-profile video games and animation projects. Moving from small online sketches to larger productions marks important progress in his career.
Future Projects and Aspirations
Recently, Cho has continued to expand into more ambitious projects, including feature films, recurring roles in animated series, and indie animation pilots. For example, he voiced Orville Park in Knights of Guinevere, an independent animated series whose pilot was released in 2025. He has other roles listed “in production.” He likely aspires to both grow as a voice actor in widely distributed animated shows and games, and to continue producing his own content where he has creative control.
